How browser-based PDF editing works

When you select a file, the browser hands your page a reference to it. The tool reads the bytes into memory, parses the PDF structure, applies your changes, and generates a new file — all in JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside the tab. The download you get is produced on your machine. There is no server step at any point, which means no queue, no upload wait, and nothing stored anywhere afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Every PDF tool here is built on pdf-lib, which runs inside your browser. The file is read from your disk into browser memory, changed there, and written back out as a download. It never leaves your device, which is why these tools also keep working if your connection drops.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no limit we impose, but there is a practical one: your browser tab has a finite amount of memory. Files up to roughly 100 MB are comfortable on a normal laptop. Very large files, or many large files at once, may slow the tab down or fail — in that case split the job into smaller batches.
Will the tools add a watermark to my PDF?
Never, unless you use the watermark tool and ask it to. Output files contain only your content.
Do the tools work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. They work in any modern mobile browser, though available memory is smaller than on a desktop, so large files are more likely to struggle.
Are these tools really free?
Yes. There is no paid tier, no account, and no daily cap. The site is funded by advertising, which is what keeps the tools themselves free of charge.
